Jayant Kumar leads the firm’s intellectual property litigation and dispute resolution practice. With over 15 years of experience, he specializes in handling complex IP disputes and advising on enforcement strategy, risk mitigation, and dispute resolution across forums.
He also serves as Senior Panel Counsel for the Union of India, bringing significant experience in handling matters of national importance and adding depth to his litigation and advisory perspective.
His contentious practice covers a wide spectrum of IP disputes, including trademark infringement and passing off, trade name disputes, false advertising, dilution, copyright infringement and piracy, misappropriation of confidential information, breach of confidentiality, and unfair competition. He also advises on disputes involving patent infringement and invalidity, as well as design-related claims.
Jayant has extensive experience working with international clients and foreign counsel, and understands the strategic, commercial, and procedural expectations involved in cross-border disputes. This enables him to deliver India-specific litigation strategies that align with global enforcement objectives.
He has represented clients in domain name disputes under the INDRP and UDRP frameworks, and has acted as Sole Arbitrator in over 25 such matters—bringing adjudicatory insight to both enforcement and defence strategies.
His approach to disputes is strategic and outcome-driven. He works closely with clients to design and implement enforcement and defence strategies that balance strong legal positioning with commercial considerations, including pre-litigation resolution, targeted enforcement, and where required, decisive litigation.
In addition to dispute work, he advises on negotiation and settlement strategy and assists in structuring and documenting resolutions, including settlement agreements, undertakings, and licensing arrangements.
Jayant holds an LL.M. from The George Washington University Law School, and has served as a visiting faculty member at the Indian Institute of Sustainability, Gujarat University, for the academic years 2022–23 and 2023–24.
